The Enemy is coming!

Been a long while since I posted here last. Things have been mad round here for the last year or so, but I am getting back in the saddle.
A while back now I decided I wanted to do my version of Vac-Man and possibly some of the good guys from said toy line, and with that I got started.

Initial concept head sketch:

Sculpting began:

On to the body and sketching as I tinkered:

Then the sculpt was ready to go a while later:

And finally on to the cast:

Honestly I spent a long time just trying to decide whether or not to cast him at all, this weekend I went for it. Vac-Man was one of my favorites, and that holds true today.
Will be playing with colors and generally getting a handle on all that soon.

For those unfamiliar with Vac-Man, the figure came with a "vacuum pump" with which you sucked the air out of the body, and the material inside gave him a horrid bumpy/bubbly skin texture, which also allowed for stretching and poses that held until you pressed the switch to refill him with air.

Cast in a vibrant orange and painted with acrylics and chalks, this version is dubbed the classic colorway.

Coming this Sunday Oct 27th at 6pm pacific time! The enemy returns. Classic edition painted run only 5 to be available at this time!
There will be additional one offs and what not so keep your eyes peeled!
More info tomorrow including pictures and price!

He-man's trophy

Seeing as I just got this back from the ceramic shop I made this for, I decided to put it up here. Don't have space to keep everything I make!
It is a wall hanging ceramic clay piece that I sculpted, modified, and painted as a "Halloween" decoration for the shop. Just a hair over 7 1/2" high by 5" wide.
I painted it with acrylic and chalk, finished with multiple coats of clear to protect it.
This is an original piece and will not be replicated, it is not often I sell original sculpts.

One of many

Hey there folks long time dead over here but coming back,

I've found myself using social sites such as Facebook, twitter, Google +, etc.. to do most of the sharing of news. Most of what I do also tends to be posted in a number of forums, October toys, skullbrain, little rubber guys, etc.. and what time I have left between all that and my work in itself I use my webpage www.papagrimtoys.com

Now that the air is clear as to the reason for my absence on blogger here's a quick blurb about one of many commission projects currently gracing my sculpting table.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Aside from projects that I am currently not allowed to show I still have multiple projects on my table. One of which is a very fun sculpt for an up and coming punk type magazine.
It is Elephant Nosebleed, I was lucky enough to not only be sculpting their piece but doing the design work and the casting for said piece. Right now we are pretty far from done on their sculpt although I have made many changes here is the most recent WIP picture. As well here is the design.

All in all a very fun project.
You can (and very well should) hit the Elephant nosebleed Facebook page and keep your eyes peeled for some mind melting publications. :Click Here:

NUKED! resin minifigures

The world is in turmoil after years of rebellion war and hate the planet erupts into a nuclear hellfire. Earth is a barren inhospitable wasteland with few civilizations dotting the once fruitful plains. Man is virtually no more as Mutation took hold accelerating the course of man’s adaption to this new and harsh environment.

Although life may still exist on this foul planet War and hatred still tears it asunder. Oculus Viri along with a small band of what is left of the united states still hold up within the ruins of the former white house.

Imperator Lacertus the disgustingly cruel leader of the FOEZ, Skekiltor his right hand, and Clawgrugg the general, Will stop at nothing to crush the only thing standing in his way. Oculus and his gang of rag tag mutants.

Oculus Viri the leader, Sam Atom the brute, and Noctu the mind, are working to amass an army of their own kind in order to protect the freedoms of their people.

Who will win the war for control of this post-apocalyptic civilization?

This is now YOUR charge, choose a side amass an army of your own battle your friends and choose the fate of this new world!

Sorry all

Serious lack of updates on my blog as of late, so in order of what is to be released and when here are some updates.

The Snot Beast V.3 will be released very soon, initially i was hoping to have more but as the mold tore in a very inconvenient place I only have 5. The release was planned for Friday the 11th but as luck would have it I was far too ill to finish painting. So a new date soon.

Next up is something I am very excited about, I started working on a warm up sculpt the other day in castilene I just so happened to do it in glyos scale, now I have decided it will be done in resin. Thanks to Eric over at OneShot toys (link anyone?) generously offered to do the molding and casting as my official collaborator, which will drastically lower costs and make a nice price point.

Next up on my plate will be my mini-figure project which currently houses an old foe and Oculus Viri soon to have a third bloke in the mix

Last but most certainty not least is my collaboration with Michael Skattum http://www.flickr.com/photos/ghastlymichael/

A sculpt of his character here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ghastlymichael/5913158870/in/photostream

Lots more soon and I will get back to posting more often but as you can see I'm busy with these and then a bunch of stuff not ready for public viewing yet.

He-Man's Trophy

My mother in law owns and runs a ceramic shop here in Redmond Oregon, While they were pouring slip into a mold everything was fine.
Then during demolding a slip of the hand left the skull destroyed, so I cut the face off removed the nasal canal and the eye sockets, sculpted a cowl. Once it had reached the bone dry state (ha ha) I carved the teeth a new to give it a better dental structure then proceeded to carve the area where Skeletor has the color change and decided it needed to be more armor like. I then burnished that armor area to give it the smooth sheen.

I painted this piece with a combination of acrylics and chalks, It now hangs on the shop walls but should be available online soon.

N.E.C.R.O

Alright guys here we go again! Myself and the guys at halfbad toyz have been racking our brains sense we made skekiltor on what to do in a battle beast scale, well we figured it out!
I decided a muscle style anagram would be a fun name and well here it is.

N.E.C.R.O
Nasty Enchanted Cadavers Rattling Onward

Now we are yet unsure whether we want to go resin or pvc, so input on that would rock as well!
Now we have 13 different skeletons in random garb, the intention is 2 points of articulation and accessories, paint aps etc..
So here's the deal we want you guys the community to vote it up and tell us which 3 guys we should produce first!

So have at folks feedback on pvc or resin and hit the comments and show us what you dig!

FOEZ!#2 Podiagon is here!!

I am happy to present the second figure in our FOEZ figure line...Podiagon!

He weighs in at ten and a half ounces of resin, is five and a half inches high. He sports four points of articulation, and a removable Sludge Gun accessory.

This figure blows Skekiltor away! You can see in the photos below the side by side comparison. Podiagon is bigger, articulated and just plain awesome.

He comes in a bag, with header art by Me

You can order him at our Shop here!

We will have solid colorways available in the coming week.

I will be posting up more painted examples, and better photos as the week goes on. We really want to explore the diversity of this figure, and you will see some wild stuff in our gallery and shop.

Skeletor

I found a crazy blank toy from roseart the color blanks, nabbed a few up and this one was perfect for skeletor. I hit him up with some polymer sculpted away and painted him up with acrylics and a semi gloss clear coat, metal chain and a cloth cape.

for sale on my etsy shop for $45.00 here:

The birth of toy

I have now been making resin toys for just about one year (will be a year as of may 6th which was the release of my first snot beast)

Over the course of that year i learned a lot i made a lot of resins and wasted even more resin, as i mixed and poured i found i was have excess in the bottom of the cup. I decided to see what would happen and i started just pouring it on cardboard and throwing glitter and wasted resin bits on it a little paint here and there. During that year the experiment grew into a piece i rather enjoyed, i sculpted up a border and “feet” on it to have it stand as a center piece for a dinner table or coffee table.

Point is I am putting it up for sale on my etsy:

http://www.etsy.com/shop/oOMoSOo?ref=pr_shop

it measures about 10in front to back and about 11 inches side to side.

It is now available for you to enjoy and this beast really makes a statement!
